Michael Jackson
One thing that I am finding interesting about his death is the reaction online. Seeing the thousands of message board posts mourning his death, I can't help but think that yesterday over 90% of these people would have made fun of him in some way. I am sure I would have been one of them. He did make himself an easy target.
The very first record I ever owned was Michael Jackson's Thriller. Ok well, there may have been others before that, like those kind you used to get with children's books, or I remember listening to the Alice in Wonderland soundtrack a lot when I was even younger, but Thriller was the first actual music record I ever wanted. I received it as a 7th birthday present. Yes, vinyl. The record had a picture of him on the front and back.
I of course grew out of him after a few years and was never a fan again. I think the last time I ever paid attention to him was when he was interviewed by Oprah back in 93. And while I thought he was weird, I didn't think he was guilty when he was accused of molesting that kid in 94.
I wached some Michael Jackson videos on youtube after I first heard. I think there is only one of his songs that I can say I truly love, and that is Another Part of Me. It doesn't have anything to do with the song though. It mostly has to do with hearing it in Captain EO, which I saw the day it opened in Disneyland when I was 9.
One thing I will always think Michael for giving us was the video for Thriller. I mean seriously.. it had dancing zombies. Dancing zombies! How badass is that?
