Dealing With Loss

You ever lose something, something important, and you think you saw it in the corner of your vision but when you try to take a closer look, it is not there?

We had to give up our cat this past weekend. I have written about her before. Her name is Laney.

She has had this problem with her litter box. You see, she stopped using it. We had to give her up to the mercy of the humane society, and hope someone adopts her.

This morning while I was getting ready for work, my eyes passed over a pile of laundry, and for a moment I thought I saw her sitting on it and staring up at me. My heart jumped, but of course, she was not there. Just like she was not there to greet me when I got home from work last night. Just like she was not lying on my feet last night while I slept.

I can't help but think there was something more I could have done to solve this problem.

I am sorry Laney.
