Yesterday, the Giants lost the World Series.
Heartbreaking.
They should have won on game 6. Dusty Baker should not have pulled Russ Ortiz. I can understand why he did, since he had just given up 2 singles in the 7th inning, but Ortiz was pitching one hell of a game. The Giants then blew it in the 7th and 8th innings. I knew they would lose game 7. For me, the series ended on game 6.
I have been waiting for this ever since I became a Giants fan. When I was a kid, I was pretty undecided which team I liked. I think it was the A's, since I had seen them play. I lived in San Jose at the time. Shortly after moving to Modesto, I became a Giants fan and have been devoted to them ever since. This was back in 1989. Will Clark made an appearance in our classroom. He was doing a promotion at a local car dealership, and came to pick up the son of one of their employees and they all shot a commercial. No, it never aired(at least no one I knew ever saw it), and the kid never became famous like he said he was. Later that year, we went to a Giants game and watched them beat the Mets. They made it to the World Series that year, and lost to the A's(my mom, brother, and grandfather were all A's fans).
After moving to Oregon(now Washington), I lost touch with the team, but re-established it after they made it to the playoffs, since I could finally watch them play on TV. My wife hated it, but I loved it. I didn't realize just how much I missed baseball.
I almost gave up on ever getting back into baseball, since I did not want to see another baseball strike. Now, I will watch them play whenever ESPN shows them. Back in Modesto, I used to be able to watch most games on TV, since we had the Sports Channel. Here, I will have to rely on reading up on them on their website.
Oh well, I am sure they will do it again sometime during my lifetime. And to look on the bright side, at least the Dodgers didn't win the pennant.
;)
